Nail Care Myths Debunked by Experts

There are many ideas about how to take care of your nails, but not all of them are true. Sometimes, people follow advice that might actually hurt their nails instead of helping them. Experts in nail care have shared some of the most common myths and explained why they are not correct. Learning the truth can help you keep your nails Mohammed bin Zayed city healthy and strong.

Cutting Cuticles is Good:

Many people believe that cutting the cuticles helps nails grow faster or look nicer. In reality, cuticles protect your nails from germs and infections. Cutting them can cause damage and open the skin to bacteria. Instead of cutting, it’s better to gently push back the cuticles after softening them with oil or cream. This keeps nails healthy and reduces the risk of problems.

Nail Polish Weakens Nails:

Some think that wearing nail polish all the time will ruin their nails. While certain nail products with strong chemicals can dry out nails, regular nail polish used properly does not harm nails. The real problem happens when polish is left on for too long without breaks, or when polish remover is used too often. Taking short breaks from polish and using gentle removers helps nails stay in good shape.

Biting Nails is Harmless:

Nail biting is a habit many people have, but experts warn it can cause damage. Biting not only weakens the nails but can also lead to infections. The skin around the nails can get sore and open, letting in bacteria. It’s better to find ways to stop biting.

White Spots Mean Calcium Deficiency:

If you notice small white spots on your nails, you might think you need more calcium. These spots are usually caused by tiny injuries to the nail or air bubbles under the nail surface. They do not show a lack of calcium or vitamins. If white spots appear often or your nails look unhealthy, it’s a good idea to talk to a doctor.

Cutting Nails Often Makes Them Grow Faster:

There is no proof that cutting nails makes them grow faster. Nails grow from the base, not the tips, so trimming does not speed up growth. What trimming does do, is help nails look neat and prevent breaks or splits, which keeps them strong.

Experts suggest gentle care, patience, and good habits over quick fixes or harsh treatments. Your nails will thank you for it.
